Rector (Addl. IGP)
Mr. M. Sadiq-ur-Rahman was born in Dhaka Metropolitan City, the Capital of Bangladesh. He spent his childhood and adolescence in a rich learning environment, which emphasized formal education through bilingual (English and Bengali) and extracurricular activities including social work.
M. Sadiq-ur-Rahman pursued his medical education program at Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh and got his MBBS degree from the said medical institution. Dr. Rahman later pursued higher medical education program in USA and earned MS in Public Health from USA.
He served as an Assistant Surgeon at Mitford Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1984 and then worked as Medical Officer at Norsingdi General Hospital in 1985.
To be able to effectively deal with the two sides of the problem i.e. preventive and corrective components of the criminal justice system as well as medical care and rehabilitation, Dr. Rahman decided to blend clinical knowledge and expertise with enforcement training and skill and then he joined the elite police officer’s corps of the country in 1986 after successfully qualifying nation-wide competitive Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examination conducted by Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC). On successful completion of competitive BCS examination, he was offered police service as Asstt. Supdt. of Police (ASP) and joined Police Service in January in 1986.
Dr. Rahman, upon joining this service, attended Basic training at Bangladesh Police Academy (BPA), Sardah, Rajshahi, Bangladesh and Foundation training course at Bangladesh Public Administration Centre (BPATC), Savar, Dhaka. Later on, he attended a training course at Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA), Chittagong and participated in Land and Survey Training in Gazipur. He also attended training courses in USA. Dr. Rahman attended one year NDC course at National Defense College, Mirpur, Dhaka in 2011.
He worked in different police units in the capacity of ASP, Addl. SP and SP. He was promoted to the rank of DIG (Police) in 2005. As DIG of Police, he worked in various important units of police service namely, Dhaka Range, Railway Range, Special Branch, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), DIG (Admin) at Police HQs, Armed Police Battalions etc.
Currently Dr. Rahman is working at Police Staff College (PSC), Mirpur, Dhaka as Rector.
He was a member of UN Peace-Keeping Mission (UNTAG) in Namibia in 1989. This was the first Bangladesh Police Contingent Assignment to UN Peace-Keeping Assignment. Dr. Rahman was awarded Peace Medal for Performance Excellence in Namibia.
In addition to present assignment, Dr. Sadiq-ur-Rahman has been engaged in academic activity as Adjunct Faculty, Dept. of Public Health, American International University- Bangladesh, Banani, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
His hobbies include family time, traveling, reading books, listening to music, watching movies and long ride. He is married and blessed with three kids.
